Two fatalities confirmed in Jessamine County plane crash

WKYT

Two people were killed in a small plane crash Saturday morning in Jessamine County, according to the Jessamine County Sheriff's Office.

The crash happened on a farm off Kentucky Route 169 between U.S. 27 and U.S. 68 near Nicholasville. Sheriff Kevin Grimes said authorities located the crash site with the help of eyewitness reports.

The sheriff's office is investigating alongside the National Transportation Safety Board. Officials say the aircraft disappeared from radar and sent distress signals shortly after departing from Blue Grass Airport.

According to online flight records, the plane, a CA6-WB registered as N82BT, took off from Blue Grass Airport at 8:40 a.m. and was last tracked at 8:46 a.m. after a flight of about 10 miles. The aircraft reached a maximum altitude of 3,300 feet.

"We feel for them, and we're praying for them," Grimes said. "We hope that they find some solace that we're doing the best we can to determine what happened with this crash."

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the NTSB.
