The company's investment will be in Kentucky and Indiana. $800 million will be spent to prepare the Georgetown facility for its second battery-electric vehicle while also expanding production of the Camry and RAV-4.

The Georgetown plant, which opened in Kentucky four decades ago with the help of former Governor Martha Layne Collins, has become home to the world's largest Toyota manufacturing plant.

Kerry Creech, President of Toyota Manufacturing Kentucky, said the investment goes beyond the assembly line. $4 million will be spent to expand STEM learning programs for students in Scott and Fayette counties. And Eastern Kentucky University will receive $400,000 to support the school’s manufacturing engineering program.

"This is a generational plant, and I want families that their kids are just now going through school, I want them to come here and make Toyota a career because it's a great company to work for," Creech said.

Nearly 10,000 employees work at the Georgetown plant.
