Treat your shelf! The 44th annual Kentucky Book Festival is Saturday, November 1

Kentucky Humanities

More than 150 authors and thousands of readers will gather at Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Lexington tomorrow for the free all-day event celebrating books and literacy in the Commonwealth.

Jay McCoy, Director of the Kentucky Book Festival, said there are activities for all ages and interests.

"In addition to authors signing books and folks being able to get those, we also have a number of panels and discussions," said McCoy. "We have three stages for adults on the upper level of Joseph-Beth, and on the lower level, we've got a storytime stage as well as some illustration workshops."

Kids fourteen and under will also receive a voucher for a free book of their choice.

"It makes a world of difference for a kid to be able to have a book of their own," said McCoy. "It's fantastic that we have such a rich and wonderful library system where kids can check out books and take them home... But, those, they have to take back. If they have one of their own, they can have their own shelf, and it's something that they'll cherish."

Nonfiction authors, novelists, illustrators, and poets will be present, among which are Kentucky Poet Laureate Kathleen Driskell and former Poets Laureate Silas House and George Ella Lyon.

The festival is a program of Kentucky Humanities.
