Kentucky falls to Georgetown in exhibition action

Otega Oweh scored 17 points, but Kentucky fell to Georgetown University 84-70 on Thursday night at Rupp Arena.

Mo Dioubate had 13 points and seven rebounds for Kentucky, while Collin Chandler had 11 points and seven rebounds

The Hoyas scored the game’s first two points before Oweh scored five in a row to give Kentucky a three-point lead. Georgetown would score the next five to lead by two, 7-5.

The game would be tied at 7-7 and 10-10 before a Chandler free throw gave the Cats a one-point lead. Georgetown scored the next three, but UK answered with a Dioubate three and an Andrija Jelavic layup to lead 16-13.

Georgetown would respond with a 10-3 run, taking a 23-19 lead in the process. After an Oweh bucket, the Hoyas scored the next four to lead 27-21. Dioubate hit two free throws to get the Cats within four, but the Hoyas would extend the lead to as many as 10 on two occasions. Georgetown led 46-39 at the break. Oweh led the Cats with nine points in the first half.

The Hoyas did not slow down in the second half. Georgetown opened the second 20 minutes with an 8-1 run, taking a 54-40 lead. UK would get dunks from Chandler and Jelavic, but Georgetown scored the next five points to lead 59-44.

Georgetown would eventually go up by 17 points, 64-47, before Kentucky mounted a bit of a run. Dioubate scored, followed by two free throws from Oweh and two from Chandler to make it 64-53. After the Hoyas got a basket, Chandler made one of two at the line and Oweh made a pair to get the Cats within 10 points, 66-56. Kentucky would get no closer.

The Cats will open the regular season on Tuesday night, hosting Nicholls at Rupp Arena. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. ET and the game can be seen on SEC Network Plus.
