McGrath is back; enters Kentucky U.S. Senate race

Amy McGrath, a Democrat and retired Marine fighter pilot, made it official Monday morning and announced on social media that she would be running for Sen. Mitch McConnell’s seat.

McGrath posted on her campaign website that went live on October 6th, “Washington politicians have broken promise after promise: on lowering prices, on protecting health care, and on standing up for veterans. What’s happening isn’t normal; it’s dangerous. This is a once-in-a-generation chance to elect a senator who will fight for us."

McGrath made an unsuccessful run for the office against Senator Mitch McConnell in 2020. McConnell has chosen to retire at the end of his present term, so this time around, McGrath will be vying for an open seat.

Already in the race for the Democrats are State Rep. Pamela Stevenson, Lexington attorney and former Secret Service Agent Logan Forsythe, and Veteran Joel Willett.

Running in the Republican primary are Rep. Andy Barr, former Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron, and Lexington businessman Nate Morris.
