No action taken on superintendent following Fayette school board meeting

The Fayette County School Board took no action following a special meeting Wednesday night. The the board remains in talks about an investigation into Superintendent Demetrus Liggins' handling of budget matters.
The investigation was carried out by an independent attorney at the request of the board. It found that Liggins failed to exercise necessary oversight over the departments responsible for handling the district's finances and did not present the board with a complete picture of the district's budget last year.
Conversations remain ongoing, even after Wednesday's nearly two-hour virtual meeting, with the board adjourning without taking any new action.
Board chair Tyler Murphy said in a statement that the board recognizes the "importance of this matter as well as a fair and thorough process." He signaled the discussions will continue.
After the release of the report last month Liggins acknowledged that he "previously fell short in aspects of budget and finance oversight" and vowed to correct the problems.
