You could see some relief at the gas pump this summer. Governor Andy Beshear announced that the state gas tax will fall by 1.4 cents per gallon, lowering the tax cost to 26.4 cents per gallon.

"I know every penny counts and that these savings can really add up," Beshear said. "Whether you're driving to school, to work, headed to church or headed out on a family trip, at least here in Kentucky, your gas is going to cost a little bit less starting July 1st."

The gas tax has fallen in Kentucky by 12% over the past two years, resulting in a total decrease of 3.7 cents per gallon.

State gas taxes are based on the wholesale price of fuel, as determined by a formula required by state law. Funds raised are used for the maintenance and construction of Kentucky's roadways.
