Fayette County Public Schools is tightening financial oversight by lowering the threshold for budget amendments requiring school board approval from $100,000 to $50,000.

The board approved the change Monday. It applies to the district’s general fund, capital outlay fund and building fund.

Interim Chief Financial Officer Kyna Koch said the change aligns with another district policy and supports efforts to strengthen financial controls after an external audit by Weaver Tidwell.

"We really just picked $50,000 because it's consistent with the purchasing policy of 50-thousand. Everything over 50-thousand has to have board approval," Koch said. "It kind of keeps that same cadence, if you will."

Koch said the district is also working to restore its general fund contingency to 2% and has launched a public dashboard tracking progress on 70 audit recommendations.

And Monday night, the board approved removing $1.3 million in projected state SEEK revenue from the building fund because the money is no longer available.
