Ronald Exantus sentence soon ends, hospitalization possible

The Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet says 42-year-old Ronald Exantus is scheduled to be released from the Kentucky State Reformatory on July 29. Exantus was convicted of the 2015 stabbing death of 6-year-old Logan Tipton of Versailles.
Before that happens, the court could begin involuntary hospitalization proceedings. In a June 5 letter to Woodford County officials, the cabinet said the judgment allows the court to pursue that process.
Under Kentucky law, defendants found not guilty by reason of insanity are subject to involuntary hospitalization, and a judge may order a 10-day detention while proceedings are underway.
The cabinet says it cannot initiate those proceedings because Exantus was also found guilty but mentally ill on three assault charges.
