Lexington Police confirmed they were called to Barr's Lexington Senate campaign office around 2:45 p.m. on Thursday.
A statement by police said a male suspect had broken into the office and caused damage, but fled by the time officers arrived.
The press release also said, "The Lexington Police Department will work with the Capital Police Department concerning this incident."
A statement released by Barr's campaign communications director, Alex Bellizzi, read in part, "This radical was motivated to attack our office because he disagreed with Andy Barr’s conservative beliefs. Political violence has been a growing trend in our country, and there is no place for it,” and that he "will not be intimidated."
Lexington Police said the investigation is active and ongoing.
