Mayor Gorton recognizes Lexington Fire Department

As part of International Firefighters Week, Mayor Linda Gorton signed a proclamation Tuesday morning declaring May 4th through the 10th International Firefighters Week in Lexington.
The Lexington Fire Department has served Fayette County for more than 150 years, ranking in the top ten departments in the country. Chief Jason Wells says LFD responded to more than 70-thousand calls for service in 2024, averaging 200 per day. Wells says the scope of their work goes beyond emergencies.
“Whether responding to a fire, providing pre-hospital emergency care, installing over 7,000 smoke alarms last year, teaching hundreds of our residents hands-only CPR, inspecting thousands of buildings for safety, or completing over 150-thousand hours of training, we are here for you,” Wells said.

The Lexington Fire Department is the largest in Kentucky, with 24 stations and 620 personnel, providing fire and EMS services.
