FoodChain is a Lexington nonprofit that, since its founding in 2011, has distributed over a million free meals to community members.

Co-executive director Kristin Hughes says FoodChain also offers educational programs fostering food literacy.

“So we have an indoor aquaponics farm where we are teaching people how food grows, where it comes from. We run a teaching and processing kitchen, so focusing on how can we take these whole ingredients and process them,” says Hughes.

Their yearly fundraiser, FEAST, is a dining event featuring 25 chefs—all women—who serve Kentucky Proud dishes.

This year, FoodChain has partnered with UK’s The Food Connection to hold their signature events together. The joint event runs May 21st through May 23rd, beginning with cooking demos on UK’s campus and ending with FEAST at the Fasig-Tipton.
