Expungement clinics help individuals clear their criminal record, which can not only lead to more job opportunities but also restore rights to vote, sit on a jury, and run for public office. Emily Downey is the President and CEO of the Woodford County Chamber of Commerce.
“They did their time, and now they kind of just want that clean slate,” said Downey.
The Chamber is partnering with the City of Versailles to cover the costs of background checks, and the Kentucky Department of Corrections and Legal Aid are donating their time.
“Once they get their one-on-one consultant, it's a private consultation with Legal Aid, then they're able to know from their background check where they stand in the process if they're eligible for an expungement, the process would be like going from there,” Downey said.
Downey said there will also be vendors available to assist with obtaining your GED and finding employment. The Woodford County Expungement Clinic will be held at Versailles Presbyterian Church in Versailles from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
