Author Attempts To 'Separate' Myth From Fact With New Plessy Book

WHYY

How much do you know about Plessy versus Ferguson, the 1896 U.S. Supreme Court decision that protected segregation through the concept “separate but equal?"  In “SEPARATE: The Story of Plessy v. Ferguson, and America’s Journey from Slavery to Segregation,”  Washington Post associate editor Steve Luxenberg, wrote about the case “through the eyes of the people caught up in [it].”  In fact, Kentucky’s own Supreme Court Justice John Marshall Harlan, a former slave owner who became a civil rights champion, is among that fascinating cast of characters.  Luxenberg recently spoke about his book at the Kentucky Historical Society and he granted a one on one interview with WUKY's Alan Lytle.
