Lexington History Museum Assembles 'All Star Panel' On UK Sports Broadcasting

Lexington History Museum

UK sports fans have a rare opportunity to meet and hear from broadcasters who’ve been behind the mic during some of the team’s greatest moments.

The Lexington History Museum is hosting a panel discussion titled “Cawood, Claude, Ralph and Tom, a history of UK sports broadcasting.”  The roundtable event will be moderated by WUKY SportsPage podcast host, Keith Elkins.

Scheduled to appear are current UK sports network broadcasters Dick Gabriel and Tom Leach, former UK play by play man Ralph Hacker, and Alan Sullivan, son of the late UK sportscaster Claude Sullivan.

"Whether you're a young fan who has heard Tom Leach as the Voice of the Wildcats throughout your lifetime, or whether you go back as I do to Cawood Ledford and Claude Sullivan, I think you'll enjoy hearing about the great teams, the great experiences that they had as broadcasters and it certainly covers more than one generation, we'll go back three or four generations," Elkins said.  Portions of the discussion will be recorded for a future edition of the SportsPage.

The event, co-sponsored by the Fayette County UK Alumni Association, is from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Eastside Branch of the Lexington Public Library.  It’s free and open to the public.
