Earlier this year Valerie was named to the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame and next spring she will be a 2020 inductee into UK's Hall of Distinguished Alumni. Valerie talks about her legendary years at UK as well as her family's pivotal role in American history. She is a direct descendant of William Still, widely recognized as the father of the Underground Railroad.
This week on the WUKY SportsPage host Keith Elkins talks with UK football great Oliver Barnett. The former defensive lineman capped his career as UK's all-time quarterback sack leader, a record he held until Josh Allen surpassed him last year. This weekend Barnett will represent the University of Kentucky as an SEC Legend at the SEC Championship game. The group represents teams that won National and SEC Championships, participated in Super Bowl titles and are represented in state, school and college football halls of fame.
The Lexington History Museum assembled a panel discussion on the history of UK sports broadcasting. "Cawood, Claude, Ralph & Tom" was held at the Lexington Public Library's Eastside branch and featured Alan Sullivan, son of the late UK sportscaster Claude Sullivan, retired UK sports play by play announcer Ralph Hacker, and current UK sports network announcers Dick Gabriel, Tom Leach and Keith Elkins.
