Veterans To Recieve Discounts at Lexington Golf Courses

Lotus Head

As part of its Thursday meeting, the Urban County Council passed a bill, that discounts green fees for military veterans at Lexington’s various golf courses.

While the measure was widely supported, some council members raised questions about the details.  Recognizing that over a third of the courses’ business was on the weekend, Councilwoman Shevawn Akers tried to amend the measure to only lower the prices on weekdays, so as to prevent loss of revenue.  Councilwoman Jennifer Scutchfield also questioned the consistency of the discounts offered.

“We already lose, we got the numbers not that long ago, $800,000 a year on golf, and to not know the amount is fiscally irresponsible,” she said.

The amendment was opposed by Councilman Richard Moloney, the resolution’s sponsor.

“They do more for this country than anybody else has, and I just feel like this is an opportunity, not just five days a week, they should have seven days a week of discounts,” he said.

Ultimately, the amendment was rejected and the resolution passed as written.
