UK Communication Professor Seeks Drug Disposal Solutions

There have been a number of initiatives taken recently to combat the opioid epidemic, in fact this coming Saturday there’s a national drug takeback event happening across our region.  But getting people to bring in their prescription drugs has been problematic especially in small towns and rural communities.  Now a University of Kentucky communications professor is working to get the word out about a way to safely destroy your meds in your own home.  He’s the guest this week on Dr. Greg Davis on Medicine.Read the UK Now article here:

Dr. Don Helme is an associate professor in theDepartment of Communication in the College of Communication and Information.  He’s partnering with the Kentucky Attorney General’s office to gauge public opinion on a new drug deactivation pouch called Deterra.  The state has distributed 50,000 Deterra packages to four counties in Kentucky including Floyd, Henderson, McCracken and Perry.  He recently talked about the initiative with Dr. Greg Davis.
