Sen. Paul: Questions Remain About 2020 Election Integrity

Donald Trump may be out of office, but he continues to have a defender in Kentucky Senator Rand Paul — who is labeling the ousted president's second impeachment "political theater" and pressing forward with calls to investigate election fraud allegations.

In an op-ed published on The Hill, Sen. Paul argues impeachment is only a tool to remove someone from office and the trial set to go forward in the Senate amounts to a "sham."

While the Bowling Green lawmaker was among those who voted to certify the election of Joe Biden, he's warned that a third of Republican voters could split off from the party if Republicans vote to convict now-former president Trump.

Paul has also continued to be a vocal supporter of continued probes into election integrity, telling ABC host George Stephanopoulos in a heated interview that courts still had yet to hear some cases originating from the November president election on the merits.

"You're saying there was no fraud and it's all been investigated and that's just not true," the senator charged.

"That's not what I said, sir. I said the Department of Justice found no evidence," Stephanopoulos replied in the testy exchange.

A New York Times analysisfound two-thirds of the Trump campaign's cases did not formally allege fraud and the remainder "consistently collapsed under scrutiny."
