New Rider Atop Leader Board At Land Rover 3DE

Samantha Lederman

Last year’s winner, British rider Oliver Townend brought the same horse, Cooley Master Class
back this year, hoping for the same result.

Their test Friday afternoon has cetainly got them off to a good start as they go into Saturday’s
cross country phase in pole position, with a substantial 3 penalty lead over their nearest rival,
compatriot Piggy French on Quarrycrest Echo. Townend is no stranger to the Kentucky Three
Day Event, and has the utmost respect for the course designer Derek Di Grazi.

Boyd Martin is the highest placed US rider sitting in 3rd overnight on his World Games partner
Tsetserleg. The influential cross country phase, about four miles of solid obstacles to be
jumped at full gallop, starts at 10:30am and runs most of the day. The ultimate winner will be
decided Sunday over the colored poles in the Rolex aren

Listeners might remember Lederman and her English accent from when she was a morning news anchor on WUKY from 1999 to 2001.
