New Recovery Option Coming To Eastern KY

A group active in the fight against drug addiction in Kentucky's largest city is planning to open a regional recovery center in Appalachia. Jennifer Hancock, president and CEO of Volunteers of America Mid-States, says the group hopes to open a residential treatment program in Clay County this summer.

Hancock says the program will house up to 20 women and their children. She says the goal is to expand services to include transitional housing and work reentry services.

Kentucky Senate President Robert Stivers says the Freedom House program in his home county will serve children who receive an opportunity for a better start in life.

The group received a $150,000 contribution Tuesday from Aetna Better Health of Kentucky for its Manchester project.

The group already provides addiction recovery services for pregnant women and mothers in Louisville.
