The new accessible playground at Shillito Park in Lexington is officially open. More from WUKY’s Karyn Czar.
Monday morning kids were running across the cushioned surface, playing on swings, slides and rock climbing walls, cranking wheels on a new water feature and racing each other through a labyrinth of passages. Shillito Park’s playground is a hit. Councilwoman Jennifer Mossotti helped head the project.
And it took a village to build. More than 800 volunteers donated over 36-hundred hours of labor to the project.
Donations from businesses and sweat equity hours from the volunteers added up to about $125,000. That allowed the city to add equipment to the playground.
