New Home In The Works For Injured Sheriff's Deputy

A Lexington police officer is leading an effort to get a home built for a Georgetown Sheriff’s Deputy who was shot in the line-of-duty.

Deputy Jamie Morales was hit during a shoot-out earlier this month with a man who was wanted by federal agents for robbing banks in several states. Morales underwent several surgeries and is now 90% paralyzed. Officer Ryan Holland with the Lexington Police Department has organized a group to build a wheel-chair accessible home for Morales, who Holland says despite his injuries is staying positive.

Several sponsors have already signed on to help, but a plot of land is needed before they can get started. Holland is also the officer who organized a home-build for 12-year old Amya Catching who was paralyzed during a drive-by shooting in Lexington in 2017.
