Lexington's Mayor Talks Latest COVID Restrictions, Racial Equity And Moving Forward

Office of the Governor, Cheapside

Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton joined us for a brief update on how businesses are handling recent restrictions to help slow the spread of the Coronavirus. On Tuesday, bars across the state were required to close for two weeks and restaurants had to roll back from 50% capacity down to 25%.

When Governor Andy Beshear made the announcement on Monday, a photo from outside a Lexington bar was shown on the screen next to him. It showed the sidewalks of Cheapside Park, packed with patrons and few of them wearing masks. Gorton said she believes this has been a wake-up call and says she's already seen and heard reports of better compliance when it comes to wearing masks and having smaller social gatherings.

Mayor Gorton also touched on recent protests, plans to rename Cheapside Park and other steps toward racial equity. To hear her full interview click the link above.
