Lexington's Dixie Magnet Shifts To Remote Learning For The Remainder Of The Week

FCPS

Dixie Magnet Elementary School in Lexington will switch to remote learning for the rest of the week because of a rising number of positive COVID cases among students and teachers at the school.

FCPS Superintendent Dr. Demetrus Liggins was able to move the classes online because of the passage of Senate Bill 1, which allows superintendents to make adjustments with individual classes or schools without having the implement blanket changes for the entire district.

A press release from FCPS said that several Dixie students and teachers developed symptoms and tested positive for the virus on September 14th. Several other students tested positive last week and 130 students are in quarantine.

Dixie Principal Cynthia Bruno sent a message to families saying “expectations about class participation and attendance will remain in place while we are learning remotely.” She added that students would bring home their Chromebooks and be getting further instructions over Zoom.
