Lexington Expands Testing As COVID-19 Cases Climb

With rising COVID-19 cases comes an escalating demand for tests. Here's a look at what's available and coming online in Lexington.

The city will soon host four free public testing sites at Southland Christian Church on Richmond Road, Consolidated Baptist on Russell Cave, Walgreen's on Executive Drive, and the city's Mobile Neighborhood Testing program. Locations for the mobile site are chosen based on which areas are seeing a disproportionate increase in cases.

Testing windows vary, but all public sites are open in the early afternoon - from noon to four - on days of operation. Details can be found at kycovid19.ky.gov.

Bluewater Diagnotic Laboratory is also offering free testing, and can process up to 1,000 tests a day.

A limited number of at-home test kits are available each day for people without transportation through the Fayette County Health Department. More information is at 859-899-2222 or lfchd.org/home-testing/.

Efforts to expand come as wait times, both for tests and results, are growing.

Josh James fell in love with college radio at Western Kentucky University's student station, New Rock 92 (now Revolution 91.7). After working as a DJ and program director, he knew he wanted to come home to Lexington and try his hand in public radio.
