On Wednesday Governor Andy Beshear requested that all the facts available in the Breonna Taylor Case that do not impact the Grand Jury felony indictments against former LMPD Officer Brett Hankison be posted on-line. Beshear said, “I believe the public deserves this information.” The Attorney General's office said that would compromise the case.
Hankison was charged with three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment for shooting into an apartment adjacent to Taylor’s. He was arrested Wednesday and released on a $15 thousand dollar bond. Two other officers, Sgt. Jon Mattingly and Myles Cosgrove were not charged. AG Daniel Cameron said the evidence showed they fired in self-defense. Beshear said seeing that evidence would help the community heal. “And those that are currently feeling frustration, feeling hurt, they deserve to know more. I trust Kentuckians. They deserve to see the facts for themselves and I believe that the ability to process those facts helps everybody.”
Cameron’s Communication Director Elizabeth Kuhn sent us the following response “We appreciate Governor Beshear’s team providing assistance to our office and the Commonwealth over the last few days in preparation for yesterday’s announcement. However, releasing that information now would compromise the federal investigation and violate a prosecutor’s ethical duties.”
