Teachers will be flooding the halls of the state Capitol again today. Jefferson County educators have called their fourth sick-out today. They are fighting against two bills in particular, HB 525 which changes who controls pensions and HB 205 which gives tax breaks to people who donate scholarship funds to private schools.
Last night Governor Matt Bevin posted a three minute response to the “sick-out” on facebook, calling them "unacceptable." Educators say their fight is about their students. They believe the changes to pensions will affect the state’s ability to hire and keep top notch teachers and that tax credits for private school scholarships will pull desperately needed funds from public education.
