Wild Fig Books and Coffee is closing at the end of the month and owners say gentrification is to blame. Wild Fig is the only African-American owned bookstore in Kentucky and has become a neighborhood gathering place on North Limestone for the past five years.
Owner Sarah Williams choked back tears as she met customers over the weekend. Williams said they had the option to buy the building but then were suddenly told to “pack up.” She hopes to find a new location and keep the business afloat.
