Flags across the state are flying at half-staff today in honor of a Fort Campbell soldier who died in a non-combat mission in Syria last month. 28-year-old Private Michael Thomason is from Detroit and was a member of Fort Campbell’s 101st airborne division.
He was the second member of that division to die in less than two weeks. Richmond native Specialist Ryan Dennis Orin Riley died days before in a non-combat related incident in Iraq.
