Lexington city leaders are beginning the process of narrowing down community recommendations for how to spend $120 million in federal pandemic relief dollars.
The Urban County Council has the task of whittling down hundreds of proposals from members of the public – ranging from an East End affordable housing project to an injection of $1 million into the city’s tourism efforts.
While council members have identified over 230 suggested projects they believe have potential, Vice Mayor Steve Kay stressed Thursday that it’s still early in the process.
"It does not yet mean that projects are approved, or likely to be approved," Kay cautioned. "If proposals at this point haven't been identified by one or more councilmembers, it does not mean they're off the list."
For now, the council is treating the list like the city budget and splitting off into subgroups to more closely examine the proposals.
The council is set to return with a more honed list of its own on October 26.
