It's been more than two years since historic deadly flooding swept through Eastern Kentucky, and the rebuilding process is ongoing.

Officials at Rupp Arena have found a way to help those families by repurposing an item used at events that they no longer need, carpeting.

Tina Bryson is the assistant director of communications of the Christian Appalachian Project. She was on site this week watching rolls upon rolls of carpeting being loaded onto a truck that will head to Perry County.

“Today we have a semi that's about 48 feet long and this donation today will be about half of that.” Bryson said, “So you can imagine a half of a semi full of carpet, how many families that would be able to help. So again, that for each family it's going to depend on whether you're only doing one room or you’re doing a whole home. But the main thing is that it makes a difference.”

The carpet was delivered to the ARH Disaster Relief Center and distributed to local families in need.
