Time to get festive! Check out the events on the calendar this month

Roots & Heritage Festival

Festival season is getting into full swing in Lexington and other surrounding communities.

For those after some summer fun right now, the Roots & Heritage Festival is already underway and runs through this weekend with one important schedule change: The parade will start at 10 am on Saturday.

The tradition, dating back more than three decades, celebrates diversity through a variety of music and performers, food, clothing, literature, and art. A full schedule can be found at rootsfestky.com.

Down the road in Georgetown, the Festival of the Horse also runs through this weekend with parades, live music, craft vendors, and much more. Toyota’s Grand Parade of Horses starts at 5 Saturday night.

Coming up soon: the Spoonbread Festival in Berea September 15-17, the Midway Fall Festival on the 16th and 17th, and the Festival Latino de Lexington starting on the 22nd.

Josh James fell in love with college radio at Western Kentucky University's student station, New Rock 92 (now Revolution 91.7). After working as a DJ and program director, he knew he wanted to come home to Lexington and try his hand in public radio.
