The University Of Kentucky Is Ready For Any Emergency, Including COVID-19

Associated Press

Officials at the University of Kentucky say they are well prepared for any emergency, and that includes a possible outbreak of the Coronvirus. Dr. Mark Newman, Executive Vice President of Health Affairs at UK said as an academic medical center, they are uniquely qualified to provide expert response and medical care. “We are a healthcare system that is able to respond to a large influx of patients whether that’s the flu or coronavirus. We continuously plan and train to deal with these situations.”

Dr. Newman said the University is working closely with local, state and national health organizations including the CDC to monitor and respond to any coronavirus cases. In the last month, faculty, staff and students who had traveled abroad to affected areas voluntarily went under home quarantine and for now, travel to China and South Korea is restricted.
