Two local literary legends will be honored at the Kentucky Theater this Wednesday evening as part of the 2019 class of the Kentucky Writers Hall of Fame. Ed McClanahan and Gurney Norman have been hailed as two Kentucky writers whose work reflects the character and culture of our commonwealth, particularly over the past half century.
"You have two people who were part of the merry pranksters of the 1960's," explained Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning director Neil Chethik. The Carnegie Center started honoring Kentucky writers in 2013. "These were men who were counter-cultural, who were questioning what was going on, who were trying figure out a new way out of World War II, really, they're the post greatest generation generation," Chethik said.
The 2019 class also includes poet Jane Gentry, mystery author Sue Grafton, as well as journalists Alice Dunnigan and Helen Thomas. The induction ceremony gets under way at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Kentucky Theater. It’s free and open to the public.
