Mary Todd Lincoln Getting Bicentennial Birthday Bash

Mary Todd Lincoln House

This Thursday marks the 200th birthday of former First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln and there’s a big party planned at the restored childhood home of the native Kentuckian.

The celebration takes place this Thursday in Lexington.  Mary Todd Lincoln was born on December 13th 1818.  The people who operate her restored childhood home and museum are throwing a bicentennial birthday bash.

Executive Director Gwen Thompson says in addition to period music and Mary’s favorite almond cake, revelers can compete for party favors.

"We have locked boxes and you have to complete a puzzle challenge for each of the boxes; solve the code to break into to the box and win a party favor...It's kind of our twist on the very well known breakout challenge rooms, but we're breaking into these little boxes," Thompson told WUKY.

The doors of the Mary Todd Lincoln House open at 5 p.m. on Thursday "but we're doing it open house style so you don't have to be there the whole time," Thompson explained.  There will be six different interactive activities and games scattered throughout the museum in addition to the music and food.
