Former Gov. Julian Carroll says he won't resign his state Senate seat following a media report that a man alleged Carroll groped and propositioned him in 2005.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reports Carroll spoke to reporters as he left the Capitol Annex cafeteria Wednesday and declined to answer questions about the allegation. He has denied the accusation.
The 86-year-old Frankfort lawmaker said, "Absolutely no resignation, no resignation." Carroll said he's "doing just fine."
Spectrum News of Louisville reported Saturday the alleged incident happened at the then-30-year-old man's home. The man played a taped conversation of the meeting for state police. No charges were filed.
Kentucky's Senate Democratic Caucus on Sunday asked Carroll to resign immediately and removed him as minority whip.
Carroll was Kentucky's governor from 1974 to 1979.
Senate Democratic leader Ray Jones of Pikeville said the decision is Carroll's to make.
