Play-Scape Project Wins Knight Cities Challenge Grant

A community development group hopes to use a $125,000 grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation to build a play-scape and community garden in Lexington’s Castlewood Park.  The project from the North Limestone Community Development Corporation, aka NoLi, is one of 33 across the U.S. to share some 5 million dollars as part of the Knight Cities Challenge.

The foundation sponsors the contest to award out of the box thinking that helps attract and keep residents, expand economic opportunities and create a culture of civic engagement.

NoLi is a two time winner in the contest.  A couple of years ago the CDC received  550-million dollars to put toward the purchase of a vacant bus terminal at Loudoun Avenue and North Lime for use as a local food processing and distribution hub and a business space for local entrepreneurs.  That transaction is yet to be completed.
