Kentucky's Republican governor says the state is now accepting applications on how to spend up to $100 million of taxpayer money to help train the state's workforce.
Gov. Matt Bevin and Education and Workforce Development Secretary Hal Heiner said Wednesday the money will be used to expand education facilities and to upgrade equipment to current or future industry standards. Bevin said he envisioned companies partnering with local governments and colleges and universities to apply for the money.
The state plans to borrow the money. A nine member board made up of state and business officials will review the applications, with awards tentatively scheduled for early November.
Bevin said the applications will go through a rigorous screening process. He said if no project is approved, no money will be spent.
