Richmond Police Fundraiser Books Jay Leno

AP

Former Tonight Show host Jay Leno will take the stage in Richmond next April as part of a fundraiser honoring a slain police officer.

The comedian is slated to headline an event called “An Evening Among Friends: The Last Call,” part of a celebrity series at St. Mark Roman Catholic Church.

WKYT-TV reports the 500 tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis with a general admission price of $200 along an option to pay more for a “meet and greet” with Leno. The cost for active duty law enforcement will be far lower, however – just $4.57, a reference to fallen Richmond officer Daniel Ellis’ badge number, 457.

A seven-year veteran of the force, Ellis was ambushed and shot during a robbery investigation earlier this month. His funeral drew thousands of mourners to Richmond and the department has set up a fund in his honor.

Josh James fell in love with college radio at Western Kentucky University's student station, New Rock 92 (now Revolution 91.7). After working as a DJ and program director, he knew he wanted to come home to Lexington and try his hand in public radio.
