Paul Delivers Promised $$ To RPK, Caucus Is A Go

AP

Kentucky Republicans say Sen. Rand Paul has secured the necessary $250,000 needed to help foot the bill for a presidential caucus in Kentucky.

State GOP chairman Steve Robertson said in a release Friday that Paul met the conditions agreed upon last month at a meeting of the Republican State Central Committee. The agreement required Paul to give $250,000 to help cover the cost of caucus expenses, which are estimated to be about $500,000.

If Paul had missed the Friday deadline, the caucus scheduled for March 6 would have been canceled and Kentucky would have its regularly scheduled primary.

The caucus offers Paul's campaign a work-around to a state law that bans candidates from appearing twice on a ballot in the same election. Paul tried but failed to have the law changed.
