The numbers are in for the Lexington Parking Authority’s inaugural Food for Fines program.
LexPark officials say the program that allowed customers to bring in 10 cans of food to pay for any meter citation was an unqualified success.
Through December 19th, the program raised over 6,200 cans of food, wiping out a total of 600 parking tickets. The food was donated to God’s Pantry Food Bank.
LexPark Executive Director Gary Means said while he was glad that Food for Fines proved so popular that it garnered local and national media attention including stories by the Washington Post, USA Today and MSNBC, he’s even more grateful for the more than 370 citizens who participated in the first annual food drive.
