The grand jury decision not to indict Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown has prompted protests across the country – and Lexington joined that list of communities Tuesday.
Demonstrators are set to gather Tuesday night at 6:00 outside Third Street Stuff for a march toward Courthouse Square downtown.
Organizer with Stop Mass Incarceration Network KY April Taylor says the action is a response to what her group sees as a pattern of injustice when it comes to policing in African-American communities.
"We just want to call people's attention to that and to also get people to rally around addressing some of those injustices through things like a democratically-elected police civilian review board," she explains.
Taylor says the goal is to speak out and "build a better system." Judging from the response on social media and through email, she says she expects at least a hundred marchers to attend.
A separate protest was held on the University of Kentucky campus Tuesday afternoon.
