A new assessment of Kentucky's infrastructure says that significant investment is needed to shore up the state’s roads, bridges, and fiber-optic capabilities.
The report produced by Bluegrass Economic Advancement Movement, or BEAM, examines whether transportation and technology in the 22 counties surrounding Lexington and Louisville are up to the challenge of growing the state’s manufacturing base.
With states across the country dealing with aging roadways and bridges, the team behind the report promised to produce a clear picture of how well the region is moving people, goods, and services – including energy, water, and now communications.
While the assessment found advantages, such as access to low-cost utilities and the UPS WorldPort facility, the numbers also show Kentucky has ground to make up when it comes to improving broadband access, public transit, and gaps in commercial airline service.
