Expanded School Days Start Monday

Starting Monday, Fayette County public school students will have to wait a little longer for the bell to ring at the end of the day.

Students will begin working off those 13 snow days Monday with lengthened school days.

"Every school will end 15 minutes later than usual starting Monday running through the end of the school year," FCPS communications director Lisa Deffendall says. "Bus routes will be unchanged. They will simply run 15 minutes later than usual and all other activities will be adjusted as well,."

The plan, approved by the school board last month, enables schools to reach the 1,062 hours of classroom time required by state law.

If the weather cooperates for the remainder of the school year, students will be out for summer break by June 6.
