State Launches Outreach Efforts As Healthcare Deadline Approaches

Messages from Gov. Steve Beshear about Kynect are about to become more urgent as the clock winds down on open enrollment.

Close to 280,000 Kentuckians have signed up either for Medicaid or private coverage through Kynect since last October, but with a large number still uninsured and the March 31st deadline looming, state officials are hoping a number of events will spur residents to avoid a tax penalty in 2015.

Events such as this Saturday’s signup effort at Fayette Mall in Lexington and “Sign Up Saturday” to be held at libraries statewide on the 15th are meant to inform residents that special discounts on private health plans will no longer be available after the 31st. Uninsured adult will also face a $95 tax penalty starting next year.

See a full list of the events below.
