Lexington, KY – Schools across Lexington are taking time out today to honor veterans.
From high school to kindergarten, the message is the same: honoring the men and women who put everything on the line for their country.
"I think their job is very hard, so for us to honor them is very important," said Maxwell Elementary fifth-grader Jordan Leggin. She was among those participating in the patriotic sing-a-longs and poetry readings offered at her school. Across town, Sgt. First Class Ken McGrew spoke to an assembly at Tates Creek High School. He said he wants students to come away from these events acknowledging the luxuries they enjoy.
"..appreciation for who have served this country, those who are currently serving, and just an appreciation overall for the country they live in," McGrew said.
Other schools celebrated the day by delivering thank you notes to soldiers at the local VA hospital, laying wreaths, and creating a living flag.
