Todd Gets High Marks, Recommended Salary Bump Following Evaluation

By Alan Lytle

Lexington, KY – Dr. Todd was given high marks in ten distinct institutional goals. Interim Board Chair Billy Joe Miles says even though the university will soon be looking for a new chief, there are no plans to amend the goals of the top twenty business plan.

"We're not going to change our course. UK is going to be the driving force of the economy in the state of Kentucky. We also want to cooperate with the community colleges; all other education. You know, we're on the same team. We have to be together to drive that. So we're going to find someone who can work with other universities, but also this top twenty. We're going to turn the burner up on that."

Trustees Secretary Pam May says the board is looking at restructuring the compensation plan, meaning a higher salary, but a smaller bonus, for Todd and his successor.

"The bonus situation has been one that has put the president, the board of trustees, and the university in an untenable situation. We wanted to promote performance but in doing so we put too much money in the bonus pool, rather than putting it in the salary pool which is where it should have been so our move today, was to essentially eliminate this bonus which was forty percent of his salary and reduce it to a lower amount, and then bring his salary up to the percentage of the faculty's salaries."

The plan will be voted on by the full Board of Trustees on Tuesday.
