Beshear Touts Accomplishments Warns Of Tough Decisions Ahead In Address

By Tony McVeigh

Frankfort, KY – In a 36-minute speech interrupted at least 29 times by applause, Gov. Beshear outlined a litany of accomplishments and charted a course for the future. He says the challenges will be difficult. "In two weeks, I will return to this chamber with a proposed two-year budget with stark numbers that leave little room for maneuvering. We're facing a huge deficit that will require us to make painful decisions about where we spend money. It will require sacrifice and restraint."

Beshear says he refuses to use the recession as an excuse not to move forward, and he called for bipartisanship in resolving the state's budget problems. But Senate President David Williams said afterwards that Beshear "doesn't have a bipartisan bone in his body."
