National Juried Exhibition
Xavier University Art Gallery
September 26 - November 7, 2008
Open to artists over the age of 18 residing in North America. Entries
must be original works not previously shown at Xavier University Art
Gallery. All 2D and 3D art created in the last two years (2006-08) will
be considered except video, performance and installation. Entries must
not exceed 48x90 inches or 100 pounds. No entry that requires the
artist to be present for moving or assembly will be accepted. entry fee
of $25 for up to three entries. Entries must be postmarked no later than Friday, May 30, 2008. Click here for entry form

Legacy Theatre seeks youth performers and groups up to 21 years old for Juneteenth at Apollo,
a competitive community talent showcase. Cash prizes of $100, $75, and $50, plus free workshops on
auditioning and presentation skills. Performances are June 7th, 14th, and 21st.
Entry fees are $5 for individuals and $10 for groups. Juneteenth also
has roles for 45 actors and dancers of diverse ethnic and age ranges. Auditions are May 16th, 7 - 9:30 PM and May 17th, 4 - 7 PM

Mary Yates and Joyce Ogden are overseeing the creation of a
hand-made clay tile mural in the exit lobby of the Louisville Metro Department of
Corrections Facility in downtown Louisville.Inmates and their loved
ones have been contributing drawings which are being photographically
transferred to flat ceramic tiles to become part of the mural.
Yates and Ogden are looking for groups who can help make some of the
artwork and tiles. Interested groups
are invited to visit Spalding University’s campus and work with Joyce
Ogden and her students in a workshop format on one or more of the
following dates: May 13, 15, 20, 22, 27, 29 and June 3, 5, 10 and 12 from 12:30-4:00 PM. Special arrangements may also be made for one or
both artists to facilitate tile making workshops at other times either
on or off campus.

Frieze Writer's Prize 2008
Frieze magazine writer's prize is an annual award to discover and
promote new art critics. Entrants must submit one 700 word review of a recent contemporary art exhibition. Entries must be submitted in English, but it may be a translation (this must be acknowledged). Entrants must be over 18 years old. To qualify, entrants may only previously have had a maximum of three
pieces of writing published in any national or regional newspaper or
magazine. The winning entrant will be commissioned to write a review for the October issue of frieze and be awarded 2000 GBP. Two further awards of 500 GBP will be made for outstanding entries. Room Of Her Own Foundation is dedicated to helping women artists
achieve the privacy and financial support necessary to pursue their
art. The foundation annually provides an award of
$50,000 to a woman writer. The foundation's 2009 Literary Gift of Freedom Award
will be given to an American woman writer who is a U.S. citizen and
will be living in the U.S. during the grant period. Acceptable genres
for this grant are poetry, playwriting, creative nonfiction, and
fiction. The program requires a $35.00 application fee.
